Is Havasupai on your bucket list? Have you never had any luck with the permit lottery? Do you just hate the feverish clambering for permits so you’ve never bothered? 2026 may just be your year.

In an attempt to pretend I’m not about to return to North Carolina amidst a major winter storm, I went for a lil 3.1 mile paddle along the northern section of Lofton Creek in Yulee, FL today with my mom (@bennett5123) and brother (@derrick_bennett9).

I’ve alluded to some major changes coming in 2026 and I can finally share them with y’all. The first happened yesterday: I worked my final shift at my salaried work-from-home job, a job that many people covet and most would think I’m positively foolish for leaving. Fifteen months ago, I would have felt the same. But after giving this role a year, I have discovered that I’m simply not meant to be so stationary, and I’m definitely not built for working five days a week.

The key to all-weather hiking is appropriate clothing and effective layering. Effective layering starts with a high quality, breathable, moisture wicking base layer. I’ve historically used synthetic fabrics for base layers, but have been curious about the touted superiority of Merino Wool. Enter: @woolxwool base layers.
